Tuesday this week saw the January fixture for the Surrey Chamber of Commerce at the fantastic Hankley Common Golf Club. It is the regular first venue of the year for the Society and no surprise it saw a very large society turnout.
Weather was as good as it could get for mid January. A frost to start with but bright sunshine, barely a breath of wind and very good greens given the time of year. 8 Surrey National were out for the day; Phil, Jim, Backdoor and Simon B in one group, followed by Mr Adams, Yeti (yes, in a t-shirt), Grant and myself.
Course in great nick. Last year we had the signature par3 and a par4 both out of action due to work. Pleased to see these both in play this year, although the par3 11th had to be relaid over New Year after some idiot on an ATV chewed it up. It is nearly ready but we had to play hole “9A” instead which was still a nice par3 hole in its own right.
No loot for Surrey National on the day all our scores to ‘ok’ to ‘ropey’. I may have had a chance at a par3 nearest the pin, until Society regular Anton apparently put it to inches only narrowly avoiding a bar bill for an ace. I think Backdoor was our collective best with 34, well done Johnny, though we may have docked him a few points for leaving his car door wide open for the whole round.
