Golf started for us last Thursday at Surrey National, with the club enabling member booking of 2balls from Monday after that buffoon Boris’ confusing update.. Bit of a hectic start with everyone scrabbling around for their login details after the announcement, Chris and the boys fielding heaps of queries and questions for a busy few days.
Great to get back outside, especially for some of us without a garden space to get much fresh air during last 7weeks… aside from nipping to the socially-distanced shops. Thought we may have been able to play a week too early, but the club have put the proper measures in place and its down to the players not to take the p*ss.
Weekend saw most of the tee times opened for members and corporates – great bit of social seeing a lot of familiar faces out (yes even Mr Loveless’ face) with many a loud conversation held across fairways. Or was that Boney’s usual tones difting across 3 holes again.
Great to be back playing, helped massively by the fantastic weather we enjoyed.
To the right, Tom snapped Sean and Jaggsy social distancing by about 100yards after their tee shots on the 18th. We saw similar from them off the 16th tee, Sean playing his next from short left-hand rough whilst Jaggsy was wandering happily off towards the driving range. Well played both.
Slow play… eh?
One massive gripe I have from the weekend… and its a familiar one.
2 balls, playing non-competitive golf.. and rounds are taking over 3.5hrs? That is utter boll8cks.
Anyone who considers 2ball rounds that long acceptable should have a real word with themselves. And don’t point fingers – first stop is to figure out what YOU can do to sort yourself out. It isn’t corporates, it isn’t play n’players.. its all golfers. Should be 3hours or there about.
Saturday was slow and some members were understandably not happy about the pace. On Sunday Ross and I just got out ahead of a couple of either playNplay or corporate groups, and from the 3rd onwards they were at least 1 hole behind and ended up at least 3 or 4 back. Sadly not a surprise and yes it is the first run out in fantastic weather but just isn’t good enough.
