Tyrrells Wood GC Away Day

10 November, 2017 by Hew Leave a Comment

Great autumn day and I pulled in The Jaggs, The Blake and The Loveless for a fourball at the very nice Tyrells Wood Golf Club I’d picked up the vouchers in the auction from Grant’s memorial day and we were very lucky with the weather. Nice to see Pam up there before we started (get better soon Brian!) and after a breakfast we headed out.

Wasn’t Mr Loveless’ front 9 (mumbling something about a late Chinese and a pint or two) and Richie missed his standard 2hours warm-up at the range and before we knew it the Whitefood-Jaggs Dream Team went 3 up after 4holes.  Halving the next two may have seen a resurgence from the B_Team, but Jaggsy’s 4th shot was chipped stiff on the par5 7th (with a shot) and put paid to that.  We rolled in winners 5&4 but worth highlighting from a slightly dismal 6pts on the front nine, a “new” Mr Loveless emerged on the back9 to return 21pts!  Great fourball, top day’s golf.

Really did enjoy the course. All quality par3’s with notably two fantastic par5’s. One of them, the 7th, had a fantastic drive and was probably the best tee box I’ve played off for many a moon – very elevated tee, to a narrow tree-lined cambered fairway on a long dogleg-right par5. A seriously cracking hole.

It isn’t long at around 6K yards (although we played off the yellows… I was convincingly out-voted for the whites), with a couple sub 300yard par4’s and a couple downhill at only 330 odd yards.  However the greens were still quick and tricky despite the amount of rain we had overnight – must be a great defense in the dry.   And definitely undulating, not too dissimilar to SN and those two par5 and the long stroke index 1 par4 each having a wicked fairway camber.  Good track.

November Early Stableford

Few words about some great gross scores over last the weekend.

Jackson won the weekend it with a fantastic 4under 68, but special note to the consistent young Sam who played a fantastic round in the worst of the weekend for a level par 72 on Saturday.

A sniff behind saw Daddy Mass just two over on Sunday and Dan D only 4over again on the Saturday in the shoddy weather.

Great golf all round.
