Turkey Trot and 2015 Prize Giving

30 November, 2015 by Hew Leave a Comment

Sunday’s Turkey Trot

This year’s Turkey Trot took place at the end of November and both the golf and the trophy awards after were I think the best attended in the last couple of years. The weather looked ominious with rain and high winds courtesy of Storm Clodagh due to roll over us.  However, despite a reasonable breeze and a few spots we largely got away with just an overcast, damp chilly day.

Teams gathered under the management of Captain Paul, Vice Joe and Matt, the usual grumbles made about tee selections, but we all headed out to see if TeamGorman would once again win another scramble event.

Our team of Jezza, ‘Deadly’ Dennis and Kieran (the excuse king) and myself managed to wangle the 17th for our tee (funny that).  We started off far too well with a birdie, put the bar of expectations up far too high from the start…. and followed it up with 16 steady pars with only Jerry’s final putt on the 6th being under pressure.  Dennis tried to knobble our team, or inspire… one of them, with a generous “measure” of whiskey and ginger on the 6th tee leaving Keiran and I stumbling down the fairway…. Jezza was nipping away at his own hipflask after seeing the half pint of whiskey Dennis dished out.  With all those pars, we weren’t in the overall running but had a great social round all the same.  Unfortunately our only bogey came on the 16th, our last hole, where we all stood up and missed the 6-footer for par with a giggling Graham Loveless spectating from the road.  “CC” indeed.

Bob and Danny Betts  and Steve Wood as a 3ball took the day’s top honours.  Danny sounded confident when he strolled in glanced at the half full leaderboard and told everyone “oh we beat that….”.  Runners up were TeamMassey, with half of Dom’s Divas scooping the golf shoe bag for 3rd.  Well done all.

Top honours

After a cheeky chilli, which had a few around the table noting it had a kick, we moved swiftly onto the prize giving.  Worthy winners all, but special congratulations to Heather and Caroline for their respective titles of Ladies Order of Merit and Ladies Club Champs for 2015.  For the Men’s, Stuart ran his son close for yet another year but Jackson retained his Men’s Club Champ title with a certain Mr S. Yule Esquire picking up a certain Mens Order of Merit….

And a very special mention…

Scottie picking up Scratch Cup and the Order of Merit for 2015

A whole heap of Swashbucklers featured in the club honours this year – too many to list (just look at the table below and find out for yourself).

However, I’m sure the whole Swindle are extremely proud that not only did we have Scottie taking the supremely tough top single matchplay title of the Scratch Cup we also had yet another Swashbuckler win the OoM off a lowly handicap of 4! Awesome golf chief.

Wayne is no doubt already planning his attack on the title for next year – a cracking job running him so close this year.  (Well done Matt Stock did I hear someone say?)  Congratulations Wayne.

Phil has sent over a whole heap of photos of the day… too many as usual but I’ve hacked my way through to have as many as I can here on the page.

They are in rough order, but its late, I’ve run out of inspiration… and my glass is empty.
