…. featuring a Hole In One!
Posted on behalf of Matt BigJaggsy
8 of us departed the cold autumnal climate of the UK for the warmer suns of Tenerife last Thursday for a little Winter Tour.
Immediately became clear the weather wasn’t going to let us down, beautiful sunshine greeted us straight off the plane and we made our way to Adeje 9 hole Los Lagos for a little warm up ready for the main action kicking off the day after.
A shorter but still full 9 holes which included a short 90 yards playing 60 yards downhill par 3 which proved too tough for even the mightiest of us Surrey National heroes.
Some of us (one of us) clearly left our games on the plane and even though the slope index made clear this was an easier challenge than most our tour courses it proved too tough for myself only managing 9pts…! The mighty Mark W continued fine scoring form from home but was pipped by one by Simon B scoring 17 pts for the 9 holes off club, 16 slope adjusted.
Quick dinner turn around and we returned to the villa for a nice post dinner drink in Phil’s beautifully remodeled Villa ready for the early start next day.
We arrived Golf Las Americas fresh and early (maybe not as fresh as we had intended) and lined for the first full 18 holes action. Golf Las Americas located not even 5 minutes from the resort, very popular 18 hole course with gently sloping holes and a wide variety of holes asking you to hit every club in your bag.
Much more even scoring day with some shared nines and close point totals but Richie (double tour winner) arriving to the party with 38pts taking the overall for the day, with Phil and Mark tied 2nd on 35.
Early dinner and a trip to local sports bar Harry’s near the “Golden Mile” for the England game, again our best intentions were thwarted and we returned to the villa for little word association game before bed.
Another bright start and Golf Costa Adeje. A short cab ride from Las Americas, a stunning 18 holes, 6 par 5s 6 par 4s and 6 par 3s course which plays down to the coast surrounding by villas and picturesque views of the island with some of quickest greens I have played. Standard scratch a shot lower, Sean took the overall with 35 points, Mark W 2nd with 33 and Matt S a very commendable 32 off +1 seeing the course for the first time.
With a later tee time the following day a few headed out to the beach bar for pre-dinner drinks to watch the sunset whilst few others stayed to catch up on some missing Zzzs from the first few days. Dinner down the beach front and a few of us went out for some night caps. A few late / early heads were fed and looked after by Sean in the morning cooking up a storm in the kitchen before our next go at Golf Las Americas.
Little bit of a slower round with a midday tee off but hard to be too angry in the sunshine, we used up the free time to tap Matt S up for a few tips, there were many of us in need, unfortunately “short ball” Matt S couldn’t keep up with a drive I managed to sneak past him on the stroke index 1 par 4 (see photo, like 50 yards J) but admittedly it was the only time I got near him all week..!
Simon B clearly in some good form took the overall for the day with 37pts and closed the gap on Mark to just 2 points for the weeks title.
With Mark W holding onto to the lead we headed into the last day and back to Golf Costa Adeje…..
And a HOLE IN ONE!!!
Simon B got his first ever Hole in One and the first ever Tour Hole in One on the picturesque 7th hole, an 8 iron to a back pin. Phil and I had just teed off on the next hole and were privileged to the celebratory cheers and man hugging as they discovered Simon’s ball in the hole. Well done mate!
Back to the overall title and we knew that Simon’s ace on the 7th would mix things up, Sean delightfully informed us that Simon’s 5 point hole in one was the same amount of points as he had for his entire 7 holes so far, I wasn’t far behind either as the bottom 4 struggled on whilst battle continued behind us.
Finishing just in time before the only dark clouds we saw all week arrived we awaited the winners. And it was……two of them.
Simon and Winkle take Tour Win
Overall for the day went to Ricardo “Tour is my home” Richie B with 37 points but with scores of 31 And 33 Mark W and Simon shared the Winter Tour Winners title both on 146pts. Excellent consistent golf from both Mark and Simon all week.
Another fantastic tour, beautiful weather and smashing golf courses.
And special thanks to Phil for the hospitality, organisation and use of the Villa for the 5 days.
If any swindle members have not checked it out so far, please do, it’s lovely villa in perfect location with year round good weather available to rent directly from Phil.
Roll on Tour/s 2017..!
