Tony returned a great round of golf on Saturday to take the Captain’s Cup from another Swindler, the in-form Mr Simon Greenwood. A Swashbuckler one-two!
At the end of another steaming hot and sticky week, the course was still in decent nick helped by an overnight storm. Greenkeepers have certainly helped keeping tee and green areas watered in recent weeks and on Saturday those sun-exposed were hoovering up the overnight rain. Wind picked up during the morning into a very healthy breeze, making the 3rd off the blues especially “fun”.
Starting on the blues off the 10th, Scottie, Jez and I had a great round, helped by said Northern Petal opening with a birdie… However not much to report beyond that, nothing really dropped and Scottie and I came in with buffer-zone 33’s and Jez with a 31. With just average but steady golf across 17holes, our last hole – the 9th – had us in stitches as we all suddenly hoicked drives into and off trees… somehow with two of us still walking away with par’s. Silly game.
Less said about the “chilli” the better (although I’m sure we could say quite a lot)… but I think Dom has received enough comments about that!
As scores came back in, Tony’s round of 41 was proved just too hard to beat… Jay and Brian putting a great effort in with 39’s before Simon returned 40. Cracking round by Mr Betteridge, and as he said, it could’ve been even better as that 41 included two blobs, one being on the last when he’d have had a shot!
So well done Tony, and a nifty one shot cut on the handicap too!
