So, all back safe and sound from another successful tour, a few of us delayed a bit but no harm done.
We set of in dribs and drabs this year, Jim and myself leading the scouting mission last Friday, just in time to play 18 at Las Americas in the afternoon, great to be playing in the sun again. Richie and Sean arrived late that evening so we were four for Saturday and we were playing in the Adeje International GC, Club Championships, medal off of the back tees, a first for most of the guys, it’s long and it’s hard (urgghuumm).
We were guests of Michael Setch and co. who play out of Adeje GC, a great day and really enjoyable playing medal, not something you would normally do on holiday. Unbelievably, we all shot 50 front nine, but Jim showed us the difference in class, coming home in 40 for a gross 90, Richie and myself 99, I missed a short one on 18 to pip him and Sean with 100, tough golf but a great day and great preparation for the tournament to come. Michael sorted us a great deal so thank you mate.
Whist we waited for Matty and Mr Lovely to arrive, the four of us trucked off to the presentation night at Adeje GC, a great and very memorable night was had by all, trousers and shoes, very strange. Jim won the guest prize and a nearest the pin so came home with a nice trophy and a few decent balls. When we got back, Matty and Lovearse had arrived so we had a few drinks on the terrace and regaled each other with stories from the last couple of days, a very funny evening.
Sunday the six of us were back at Adeje, yellow tees now though, a bit of barracuda and in our three ball, Oozlers, with 6 par threes, they can be expensive. Great day again. Sunday night sees the arrival of the final two, Sid and Mark, Lovearse grateful for Mark’s arrival and relieving him of a bit of pressure (stick)! So an evening of preparation for the Tournament Proper’, eat local and bed by 2.30.
Monday we start the Tournament at Las Americas, nice and gentle from the yellow tees. I really scrapped it round but somehow managed 36 points, only to be beaten by Jaggsy with 37, (he was the only one who got a shot on the slope that day, strange). Mark 3rd with 35. CSS 32.
Tuesday we head off to Adeje to play the Adeje Int. club members in 4 x 4 bbb matches, a break from our usual format. Back tees again and tough competetion but we were all up for it, unfortunately we got bashed in all four matches, two on the 18th though so very close, a great day and great hospitality from Michael and co.
Wednesday we were at Golf Del Sur, a new course for some, a bit higher up the mountain and the wind was howling, reflected in the scores, all a lot lower than the previous day. Mark nicked the day with 33, Jim and Sid 2nd with 32, next Richie with 27, a real tough day. CSS 29.
Thursday we were back at Las Americas and up went the numbers again, Sean winning the day with 40 points, I nicked 2nd with 35, Jim 3rd with 31. CSS 32 again.
Final day at Adeje and we were now split into in our respective groups, elite and shit, the latter went out first, Lovely, Richie, Jaggsy and Sean, followed by the elite, myself, Mark, Jim and Simon, Mark was leading with 99, Jim 95, me 94 and Sid 91 so all to play for still but Mark was the man to catch. We gave it a good go on the front, all three of us getting 18 points, Mark 16, so 2 back on him. Jim and me lost it on the back but Simon continued to pressure Mark until the 17th, when he finally floundered, leaving Mark clear to scoop first prize. A worthy winner despite cries from afar of ‘oh no, anybody but him’. Last day scores Jaggsy 35, Simon 34 and Mark 33. CSS 29.
Another great tour, in great company, all gone too quickly. Well done Mark.
