The Jolly Boys 2019 “Spanish Inquisition Tour”

18 October, 2019 by Hew 2 Comments

In the depths of last winter we decided on visiting a different part of Spain to see if we could meet up with our old friend Denzil at some stage. Not only did he turn up but so did Teresa and stayed over night playing two rounds with us. Just as well because he would probably have won the tour had he been there all week!

State of this lot…. 2019 Jolly Boys. Nice one. (From ltr: Brian, Mushi, Boney, Asif, Dave, Bob, Sylvester Stallone, Captain Mainwaring, Arshad)

As always the tour was full of laughter, good golf and excellent weather. Knowing how much rain there was in the UK made it more enjoyable.

Arshad (our surgeon friend from up north) took and early lead on day one and retained it the whole week, despite spirited challenges from Asif and Barry.

The toilet seat trophy saw the most intense competition, and it ended up in a two horse race with Mushtaq securing the trophy for a third time. I was tempted to suggest he should keep it for being winning it so often. But I didn’t want to knock a man when he was down. The scoring was generally high and he didn’t play badly the whole week (just I played better) 😊.

Hmm yes the infamous roof shot.

So we came to the 8th hole, a par 3 (nearest the pin)  water on the right tree lined on the left wind blowing right to left. I’m well under (net) par looking forward to my best round of the holiday.

Slightly concerned but hit the ball well then for some unknown reason the ball goes left. No worries the trees will catch it we thought. Started walking off the tee when a loud metallic bang echoed around the place. The ball had flown the trees and landed on the roof of an industrial building, much to Boney’s delight playing in front of my group.

For some reason the song “Up on the Roof” kept coming up for the rest of the holiday. Can’t think why.

Nice photo of Brian and Graham. Must’ve been Brian’s joke… that or Graham’s cornered him with one of his classics and Bri’s trying to escape under the table
