Friday 26th
Friday saw 19 of us heading out early to play before watching the end game. Playing Stableford off club, and nominating two holes to double up scores, Barry came in with an impressive 46 points only to be pipped by Mr Jaggs on 47. Made even more impressive by Jaggsy only getting 1pt on his nominated 9th hole (doubling it to 2).

Ryder Cup Sunday Swindle with Jez, Simon and Strongbow
Some big hitting in our group with Lee and Tom – Tom going through the back with a drive and 9iron on the par5 12th. Doubling up on the 4th, he also dropped in a good birdie putt for a 3 for 8.
Big thanks to Wayne…
for organising the day. He somehow made it home after far far too many Guinness’ during the afternoon.
Saturday 27th – Home against Surrey Downs in final Surrey Hills fixture
We needed a win, and with Captain Mark swanning about in Devon somewhere we needed to dig deep for inspiration (!) I’ve said before that the Surrey Hills is a great day, nearly… if not all matches are played in great spirit. All similar club golfers, usually playing familiar faces on the same familiar courses. We needed a win to secure 2nd place, and hope that Reigate did a job on Farleigh … at Farleigh. Not sure of the result on Sunday, League Chairman Loveless will be able to update us there.
Lee and Al Gollampost headed out first and with some inspired better ball play won by 5 shots. Stevie and Scottie I believe halved, as did myself and La Macchina Lee Snashers against steady Stuart and young lad Ryan who was smashing it away off of a handicap of 13. Despite a promising start, Lee was the rock on the back nine for us. Graham and Chris came in by 4 holes and despite an awesome approach to the 18th by James (Liu), he and Al Savs went down by one.
So an eight point overall win… solid but I think to have a real sniff of the title we needed to have done something spectacular. Good job all involved.
Saturday Swindle
Apologies but I didnt pick much info up on the Saturday Swindle – can someone add a message below with the winners. I’m sure Bob will be issuing the spreadsheets this week. See Jim’s message below!
Knockout
Couple more matches took place over the weekend. On Saturday, Dennis pipped Jim on the 18th I believe. I managed to nip past Jez Parfitt on the 17th on Sunday. I’ll update the table when Lee sends it over.
Sunday 28th
Sunday’s Swindle was a strong one, I think about 18-20 of us headed out in another warm late September morning.
Jim smashed it in the final group with his best ever round, shooting a 75 and taking the Swindle as a clear winner. We had a 37 from the in-form BackDoorJohnny and two 36’s all missing out to Jim’s round. Big congrats.
Europe Win!!!
The headlines have all been written, we’ve seen Phil basically pee over Tom Watson’s captainship… and we’ve seen the European Team (emphasis on ‘team’) prevail over the Americans.
I found it interesting that the McInley drew in everyone into his plan… notably involving the caddies in his speeches to really bring the team to mean everyone on their side. Great stuff.
Kaymer’s chip in, awesome. Rory burning it up from the start. Rose’s and Kaymer’s approach from the same bush on the 13th or 14th (I think)… all topped off by Jamie Donaldson’s pitching wedge to gimme distance. Great stuff.
Saturday Swindle
Honours were taken by Tony B with 36 points from a field of 9. Jane played wonderfully on the front with 22 points (obviously flush from having Phil out of her feet for a few days!)
Dennis ‘smashed up’ Jim in the Swindle knock out comp on the 18th; Dennis masterfully knocking in a 5 on the last for the win. It was good match play with Dennis playing very well on the back 9.
Knockout Results Table has been updated.
