Swashbucklers take Anniversary Cup 2014

12 May, 2014 by Hew 2 Comments

Anniversay Cup weekend at the club. With unsettled weather over the weekend, scoring wasn’t going to be that easy with showers, sunshine and blustery wind on both days. Saturday’s best was a respectable 85.

Swashbucklers overloaded Sunday’s groups with half of them being full Swashbuckler’s teams. 4 out of the top 5 were our Swindle, the winners being BDJ, Bob, Yeti and Wayne. A cracking 88 better ball Stableford score in some tough conditions. Mr Nowak apparently scoring a very healthy 23 on the back contributing well to the team’s score.

Match report posted on behalf of (the winning team member)… Brian Chamberlain

A windy, but thankfully not wet, Sunday saw Swashbuckler’s Brian Chamberlain, John Clemence, Bob McNally and Wayne Nowak claim the first competition of the 2014-15 season, winning the Anniversary Cup by two shots with a score of 88.

Conditions were never going to encourage exceptional scoring, but solid play and good putting by all the team, plus great dovetailing, meant that apart from a poor three points on the par 3 seventh, we were never far off our 5 point per hole target.

Shots of the day were John’s precise bunker shot at the 11th, Bob’s superb chip at 12, which kept us on course when we starting to look a little ragged, in-form Wayne’s (fresh from his triumph for the Surrey Fives team yesterday) two mighty second shots at 16 and 17 (the latter from the centre of the 14th fairway), and Brian’s putt through the fringe on 9 for birdie (ignoring Wayne’s advice!) and second to the 18th for a long two putt par. (Thanks JC for making me see sense and not go straight at the pin)

The season is away, and the Swashbuckler’s are on the board!

Around the club

Jaggsy is very chuffed over his new bag. It contains lots of space for provisional balls

Am I right in thinking that the reward for Man City winning the league will be a photo of my trousers on the website?
