Sunday was a great day for the final major of the year. Bright, sunny and with a warming breeze – as it should be end of August. The President’s Cup is a board comp played alongside the Ladies Presidents Salver both stableford off full handicap and off the blues for the Men.
Could the Swashbucklers take another major? Well we came close, with 8 Swashbucklers in the top13.
- Stevie Mc 3rd – 41points
- Scottie 4th – 40points
- With me on 39, Waynetta on 38, Phil, Yeti, and the Grubbster on 37, with Jim on 36 and Jaggsy with 35
A great performance from all. I played with Stevie who had a great round. Dropping in long putts for fun, he grabbed 3 birdies including one the length of the 18th. Hole of the day was his 17th (8th on the course), when, knowing he needed a decent finish, putted from off the front of the green off the sideslope and into the bunker. Girding himself he then popped it out of the “sand” and sank the putt for a point. Not enough as it turned out, but a great bit of golf to keep the score going.
UPDATE: Jim eagles the 9th
Apologies to Mr Doran. in my bleary eyed state when I knocked up this post I thought I’d covered the highs and lows of the game – only to miss out Jim’s very own ‘glory shot’. Yes, in approaching the 9th (actually playing in the group behind myself, Stevie and Mark) Jim hit his “sweetly struck” 7iron into the hole for an eagle. Chris played with Jim and added his own sound effects describing it, “bounce and ping” in it went. I even had the b8lls to ask if that counted as a 2 – clearly the sun had gotten to me…. so Jim’s and my own cheeky bird on the 7th went onto the list of 13 2’s on the day!
On that subject, and counting up the two’s… beyond Jim’s fantastic “2” on the 9th, I see that Scottie bagged a brace of 2’s on the 3rd and 13th. Well done too Mr Yule… “canny” even.
Ashley Martin came in with 45 points for the overall win receiving another exceptional cut seeing him drop from 18 in May to 11.5. Congratulations to him.
One dampener on the day was that we had some players walk off in the field, thoroughly hacked off from the slow slow play. It was expected to be slow but we’re hearing the same thing week in week out. Not good.
Indra takes Lady Presidents Bowl
In the ladies comp Indra stepped up for the Swindle and won by 6 clear shots from Novelle. Indra recieves a healthy 2shot cut for her win – superb job!
Saturday Swindle – Mr Strong turns on the style
Beers and a turkish in Clapham clearly worked for Matt as he won Saturday’s Swindle. Grumbling about his inevitable Swindle handicap cut, he came in with 37 points, and managed not to get a 6 on his card. Fantastic golf. Jaggy accepted his round (34 I think), but was wondering if anyone else has recently parred the 12th and 14th par5’s from balls in the other fairways? Nifty.
Hew! Not a mention of my 12-24 par round and my eagle on the 9th!
If anyone has a spare 6 hours, I will talk them through every millisecond of the sweetly struck 7 iron as it set off on its 170 yard journey towards the green and then…blah, blah blah, blah blah… Oh no, I’m turning in to CC!
Arrrrrhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Fixed, Mr Doran!
Who’s sitting next to Jim on Sunday’s flight !!!
