On a warm muggy day, Surrey National welcomed Surrey Downs in the fourth fixture of the 2015 season. We needed a decent win, knowing Farleigh are taking most people to task again this year, and at home we had to focus on getting the points in. Surrey Down bought their usual determined team, all steady 7-13 handicappers.
The extremely solid pairing of Andy and John were clearly up against it going down by two holes, as did the big hitting Ben and Captain Mark. Tom and Wayne didnt come to (good humoured) blows for a change, though some Wayne was mumbling about some putts which meant he didnt break the course record or summat 🙂 Save it for next week Waynetta! Tom’s wonderful command of language, supported by subtle Wayne’s contribution may have put the opposition off a bit. Well done the ‘bears’ in taking their match by two.
Myself and Danny played the very steady Steve and John. Both pairs one or two over after nine, after a long putt on the 11th and a birdie on the 12th by them to bring it all square, we put our heads down and took 3 of the last 4 holes and the game by 3 holes. TeamGollopFeezy ground out a hard fought half in the final game.
So we took the match, but only by a point. Needed to put away some decent points for the league, but Surrey Downs defintely came to play – they all knew the course very well and I think the guy we played, Steve, had secret membership given all the bounces he found. Two weeks time we head over the Surrey Downs, lets see if we can pip them on their own ground.
