Surrey Hills home match against the Farleigh campaigners.
Deputising for the Winkle, day started slowly with only 10 breakfasts being prepared (instead of 20) and tea/coffee not on hand. All swiftly remedied and the teams all lined up. Surrey National remained third behind Woldingham and Farleigh in the league but with home matches lined up we needed a solid result against the always strong Farliegh.
They are a very good bunch of lads and every game has been played in the best of spirits despite both teams really wanting to do over their opponents.
In decent weather we headed out to firstly win, then to win by as many as possible. Last year Sean said that a rough mark is to win at home by 7. We wanted this, and more, to try for a run for second place in the League. We had a strong team out (despite Mark being in Mek-hi-co!). Such is our squad, we couldve fielded an equally strong second team.
A great day and an overall win, despite it being a small margin.
Tom and Wayne won by two against Simon and Billy from Farleigh (our boys were 2 down with four to play). A great turnaround. All four of the remaining pairs came down the 18th all square, so close were were the games. Al Savs and Lee halved with Paul and Tony. Phil and I kept our heads to win the 18th, and by one overall against Lee and their club Captain Gary. Simon Levelle and Rob ‘Bubba’ Hance won on the 18th to again win by one. Graham Adams and Chris havled their match.
So noone lost, and we came out on top 47-43 overall.
Cracking games against some great opposition… traditionally our hardest home game.
