Surrey National maraud Marrakesh

photo-3With 17 feet of rain in the last 2 months falling on Surrey National Janine and I decided on a nice quiet trip to sunny Marrakesh for 5 days for a bit of golf and relaxation and duly booked the hotel and flights.

Going to Marrakesh? Going on your own? No chance, we’re coming too” said Sean, Tracey, Brian, Pam, Prit and Indra.

So a 3 course competition was set up with various permutations as only the Swashbucklers can do. Men and women singles, couples and daily 4 ball comps with £75 per couple up for grabs.

The weather was fantastic, back to short sleeve shits, shorts (for those with spinally legs)and sun glasses. Palmeraie was an open American style course with plenty of water – to Brian’s dismay, with excellent greens. Graham and Tracey took individual honours. Royal Marrakesh did not live up to its billing, but clearly Sean and Indra liked it with 38 points each.

The final day shootout was on the best course the Nicholas designed Savannah. 7,100+ yards off the whites which we agreed to play to prior to our arrival. On reflection the yellows would have been a better choice as they were a mere 7050 yards (I kid you not). The greens were fast, very very fast, not to mention the slopes. Needless to say the scoring was not as hot except for Janine who won the ladies with 31 points and Prit took the men’s, with not as many.

Overall Indra won the ladies comp and Prit won the men’s. Brian and Pam and Sean and Tracy had to raid their wallets to cover their losses and I just had to dig out £2.50 to cover Jan and myself’s losses. Generously Prit paid for the last days lunch out of his winnings. Would I go there again – absolutely.
