Firm, quick greens, a respectable breeze, reasonable rough but nice warm sunshine all greeted us for the latest round of the Surrey Hills league… away at Surrey Downs.
Phil and I were up against a team with one guy playing 5 or 6 under his handicap but we didnt take any of the (few) chances we had either. Unfortunately, our loss by 5 ate up the good work of the other teams. Stevie Mac and Sean were up against it too but David/Rob, Scottie/Bryan and the lead team of Alan/Lee all did the business.
And yes, we heard a lot about the 18th hole from Lee, something about two blinding shots in for a an eagle putt… we didn’t hear as much about the previous 17 holes. His playing partner Alan kept tactfully quiet.
Woldingham at home in a couple of weeks, then a potential big one at Farleigh at the end of September.
Captain Sean’s Match Report:
We managed to hold them to a loss of 3 points – A massive improvement on the 18 points we lost last year, and given we took 3 points of them at our place, I think we can call it an honourable draw.A huge well done to those pairs that won, and a quiet thank you for the others for holding on to what they could.
1. Leas Feasey & Allan Saville +1
2. Hew Whitefoord & Phil Macve -5
3. Bryan Hogben & Scott Yule +2
4. Steve McNally & Sean Savedra -3
5. David Bull & Robert Hance +2
The previous 17 holes were steady, me and Alan dove tailed very well and I made a crucial number of saving putts, especially the 20 foot off the green putt to half the 4th, or the chip in on 16 for the half……………. Alan played solid and I just filled in when I needed to. think that is great partnership!!!!!
Take that to Twitter in a Lee Westwood stylee!
Well done Chaps. Let’s make sure we smash Woldingham at home so the last match at Farleigh is a nice day out (although I will be in Vegas!).
