A fantastic day to play any course, but Sutton Green, just off the A3 was in great shape and the sun was out for us… if not on the result. We lost 6.5 to 1.5.
Under the leadership of our Ladies Captain Margaret, Surrey National traveled to Sutton Green for the annual friendly mixed match between the two clubs.
Graham and Janine beat their opponents (the only team to win… as we were reminded by Graham a few times over dinner). The Yeti & PamYeti fought back from 3 or 4 down only to lose out on the last and even the DreamTeam of Carol and Graham (Lovebox) couldnt pull a win out of the bag. Some strong local play from the Sutton Green members saw us miss out in the other games but Indra and I managed to secure a half.
We’d been a couple up during the match. We both played a steady game for most of the round but giving a few shots away we then had to put on a brave face when Chris, all 5foot of her, putted or chipped in from off greens 4 times… the last being on the 18th. Indra’s extremely solid putting steadied the ship for us in the final stretch, and her fairway wood from the rough on the 17th skinning past the bunker to the middle of the green meant we were down the 18th all square. At the close, John, our opponent, had a very nervy 3footer for the half but it was probably the fairest result overall.
A fantastic day, lovely dinner and good, competitive golf. A great day out.
