Last game (for us) of the 2015 Surrey Hills League saw Surrey National welcome Woldingham on Saturday. It was warm sticky day and we needed points on the board… and quite a few, with Farleigh having two matches to play and both at their place.
Pairings needed a quick shuffle with Lee unavailable but Mark was back from holiday and the teams setup.
Phil and I were out first against Rob (6) and Simon (12 or 13). Phil and I started slowly, going down three holes after 4. Writing was on the wall as Simon continued to put a good round together… turned out it was his best ever coming in at just 5 over. We tried to put up some resistance (honest we did), Phil dropped couple putts and I was level from hole 5 to 18 but he was parring shot holes and birding or parring the others. We went down by 8 at the end.
That immediately wiped out the 3hole win put together Gorilla Tom and Radar Gollampost. Sorry about that, but it did put a dent in our sorry loss.
Jaggsy chalks another club off his Christmas card list
Next in was a slightly sheepish Jaggsy and a bemused Mr Andy Gorman. He’s never seen a 17handicapper play a round like that he said, and their opponents would probably agree as they suffered a massive 10 hole loss.
Just as Farleigh won’t forget Mr Jaggs, now neither will Woldingham. Dart boards have a new face on them!
Winkle and Danny went down by 3 holes I believe… before Wayne and Dave Paige stormed a win in the final pairing.
So we won by 6 overall, a decent result (especially with a heavy loss in first pairing). Let’s see what that does to the table – puts us top I believe but it comes down to Farleigh’s two home matches… and they do like a home win!
