Surrey National Away Day – Silvermere

This Thursday I attended a very enjoyable away day with 30 other golfers at the away day organised by Julie and Paul Davies.

For those that have not played Silvermere before I would definitely recommend it. While not the longest course for sure (and on a quiet day you would be able to get around it in well under 4 hours) it certainly has some challenges and you need to think your way through some of the holes. It also has a great proshop. Light lunch was followed by 18 holes stableford and then a BBQ was served with prize giving.

Yours truly posted a commendable 39 points (a disappointing 16 on the front…you can do the maths for the back!) but was out bandito’d into 2nd place by organiser Paul with 41 points (pah!). Ex-Club Captain Neil Lawrence came in a good 3rd with 35 points.

On the ladies’ side of things Chris Shorthouse took 1st prize on 36 points, with Tracey Savedra and Sharon Snashfold coming 2nd and 3rd respectively both on 34 points (so no banditry from our ladies section). Julie actually scored the highest ladies score with 37 points but refused to accept the 1st prize as she was an organiser and I think she showed great generosity in wanting to see others take the top prizes – no dig intended here Paul…ok maybe a bit of a dig 🙂 .

I was also given the honour of drawing the first ticket for the raffle and somewhat embarrassingly pulled out my own name. Later David Little and Neil took me to one side for a gentle dressing down explaining that I was breaking the rules of being a SN Club Captain by winning anything!

A big “thank you” to Julie and Paul for organising a great day out.

Cheers, Graham
