Surrey 5’s B match report by Wayne Nowak
What a match!! The news was not so good on the turn, it had been fed back that Mr Vicars was all square in the leading match and Mr English and Mr Richardson were 2 and 3 down, with Mr Krarup all square in the match ahead of me. I was leading 2 up on the turn and stunk in a nice 15 feet birdie to go 3 up.
Unfortunately Johnie the marshal was not feeding back the news that the matches ahead with turning into our favour. Mr V pulled off the win of the day with a 3 & 1 victory and good old reliable Mr R did again, just like at Wimbledon Park with a 1 up victory! THEN!!! with my match going “Pete Tong” [translation: badly or less well] and needing to win the hole on the 18th to force a play off, came the news that three of the matches had to go down the 1st, much to John’s annoyance with a dozen or so pay and plays waiting to tee off!
Mr E came back after losing on the first hole, but we think he threw it to get some Sunday Carvery into his belly!!
So, 2 matches left and some very nervous golfers to say the least, but Mr K won the first hole, much to my pleasure!!
We now await the guys from The Addington in our next round for a place in the quarter finals, bring it on!!!!
Thanks for the write up Wayne and Captain Paul for his management…well done Surrey National “Bee’s”… the Add next!
Surrey National pairs miss out in Kelsoe Cup away tie
Kelsoe Cup is a pairs format for teams representing their club between handicaps of 13 and 18. After a couple of wins already in the comp, it unfortunate to hear that Brian C and Mark lost at Croham Hurst over the weekend in their Kelsoe Cup round. Mark’s increased knowledge of handicap awards in the Kelsoe Cup didn’t work this time. Unlucky chaps.
Matches and Swindles
Lots of matches played during last week and over the weekend, Byron Cup, mixed better balls, Caterham Cup summer pairs. I don’t have a note of all the winners/losers, but a special note to Graham “Just one C” Loveless, who, partnered with Carol, put in a good performance in our mixed match beating myself and Caroline Awesome Wells. Oh what a joy (!) to see his face light up after knocking in massive putts on the 16th, then again on the 17th to go down the last one up with a shot. Less said about my 3foot putt miss on 17th for the half the better. Then seeing Mr “just one C” knocking his second to 8feet (with a shot remember) was such a joy. I got inside him but for nothing! Hmmm. Good win for Graham and Carol!

15 turned up for Saturday’s Swindle with Dean Feez taking the bulk of the winnings from Wayne on 41 and I think James M narrowly pipped (again) on 40 points.
With matches going on, 9 turned out on Sunday, Scottie and James M sharing the winnings on 34 points, and a special note for Scottie coming in with 34 off of 1. Nice one James for getting some wedge in his pocket after missing out a day earlier. Scottie, rolled out his wee ‘mini me’ Harry who did a great job bringing in 29 off of the reds. This, despite his Dad pointing out the number of tops he had.
