The final throes of the ‘Bertha’ storm arrived Sunday morning. Weather websites were actually spot on. Rain starting earlier, really coming down around 10ish, improving at lunchtime with the odd flash shower.
Comedy moment early on as I turned up at 7.30 when the heavens opened and the determined lonely figure of Mr Phil Macve was spotted up on the range. Phil had a match with Barry Ashlin in the morning – they managed to get out and after very challenging conditions Phil won 4&3 I believe.
David Fielding and Jez Richardson were also out in a match in the thick of it, David winning on the 18th with tales of putts literally bubbling out of flooded holes.
Waiting for the weather to break, Mr Stock took on the 3W challenge to the 2nd. Hitting the bunker. Mr Vicars had a go (nil point – sorry John), before Wayne hoofed his driver up to the left of the green. Good job all round.
A determined 6 headed out after 9am, only to be forced off on the 5th/6th holes.
Happy Birthday Indra
The call went out for the ladies who decided against their match and cracked a cork instead to help celebrate Indra’s birthdays. I think Jan’s breakfast cuppa turned out to be a glass of Rose.
Thank you for the piece of cake at the end of the day, lovely.
A handful managed to head out again at 1 and with the exception of one burst of rain on the 9th enjoyed some warm windy play and 18 holes.
Another tale of endurance was the way Mr McIlroy hung in there to win his 4th major at Valhalla overnight despite some awesome golf from Messrs Mickelson, Stenson and Fowler. Gutsy the BBC called it… indeed.
