After extensive delays, last year’s summer pairs Competition was settled at the weekend between our boys Ross & Grant against the determined Pistol campaigners of Jay and Andy G.
Match report posted on behalf of Ross & Grant:
We finally got to play our long awaited Caterham cup final on Sunday afternoon.
After broken bones, injuries and then lockdown we got our act together and played the final. Bit of a nervy start for us with Jay in top form at the moment!
A 20 footer for birdie at the first helped settle the nerves and put us one up. Two and three were halved with pars before a minor miracle occurred at four.
Andy holed out with an 8 iron from 160 yards for eagle only for me to drop a slippery 25 ft put downhill to halve the hole with a 3 net 2! I then went on to hole a 15 footer for birdie on 5 to put us two up. Grant followed up with a great four net 3 at six to put us three up!
Andy put it to two feet at 7 to peg us back but after halving 8 in par we won the ninth with a four net three to be three up at the turn. Andy missed a short birdie putt at 10 so hole halved in four. The 11th was halved in par before Grant holed from twenty feet for birdie at 12 four up!
At the 13th Grant made par which was good enough for the win our opponents making their first bogey of the round. Jay made a great birdie at 14 to keep the match alive , but a par was good enough to see us through at 15.
It was an incredible match with some fantastic golf very much worthy of a final.
I must add that our opponents were gentlemen throughout and the match was played in great spirit, an absolute pleasure to be part of it!
For both myself and Grant our first major win at the club, hopefully the first of many more!
