Some cracking scores this weekend in the face of some woeful weather.
The downpours last Thursday/Friday had wrecked the bunkers and clearly had seriously messed up all the hard work the greenkeepers had been putting into the bunkers. They were back to being fairly pretty decent (for what they are)… and now the rain has scraped all the sand back and the work has to all start again.
The result was that Saturday was Order of Merit only and non-handicap qualifying. A humid weekend, Saturday weather was notably poor with rain and heavy drizzle most of the day. Sunday was an improvement and even got bright and more humid at the end of the round.
Two cracking Swashbuckler rounds to lead the scores, Richie and Simon both returning a very impressive 43 points, with Richie nicking it on countback. Well done.
Other notable Swashie scores by Jim and the in-form Lee The Feez each with 39pts. I think that wiley old dog Bob English, young Charlie and Theuns all had top rounds in the rain on Saturday too. Across the weekend, even 36 points would have only gotten you 24th place in this comp! A very good scoring standard, and if it was qualifying the comp standard scratch may well have been 36 or 37!.
Well played all (and *cough* good timing for swerving the handicap cuts *cough*).
Blimey, we even have a medal next month, a rare thing at Surrey National. First one of the year is it before the Club Champs on 20th? Let’s hope bunkers are back in play and we can see all those handicaps falling.
