Daisy, Phil, young Peter and myself played at Reigate Heath Golf Club on Wednesday hosting their second ProAm event. The course is 9holes (played twice for 18holes), set in lovely heathland with a fantastic clubhouse (complete with windmill) with views across the countryside.
Greens were just awesome. Chatting to a member, he said they were a third faster than normal, so very quick but very true (no hiding from poor putts!). Format was medal, 3 scores counting for each hole.
We were first out (not much of a crowd as we were announced on the tee) and started quite well. Fortunately we weren’t pulled up for unknowingly playing off full handicap and were able to correct this at the end. Par3 3rd hole helped scupper our plans with firm ground taking some half decently hit shots away into the nasty stuff and the putts rolling… and rolling and…(etc).
Daisy played her usual steady and impressive golf, and we all came in at some point but sadly not enough for any honours. A great morning’s golf and BBQ afterwards.
They had a special event from the elevated tee box in front of the clubhouse with the pro’s playing down to the 2nd green – a long carry of about 240yards downhill but into a reasonable wind. Daisy was up first and just rolled through on two of her 3 shots. As we left I think the lady assistant pro of Reigate Heath was in the lead. Great seeing the pro’s take long irons, hybrids and cutting high drivers into the tiny target miles away.
Headed over to play the Addington in the afternoon – its in great shape at the moment with greens looking very nice.
Peter and myself (mostly Peter) beat TeamMacve which I’m sure all will appreciate how tricky that can be sometimes (and pleasing!).
