Final medal of the golfing year last weekend and the Order of Merit was to be decided on this competition with barely a couple of points between the top3. I believe the original plan was to have the 3 contenders, Dan, Al Savs and Lee Feez head out in a 3ball. On the day Lee went out earlier, leaving Al and Dan to share a buggy later in the field.
Congratulations Dan, Order of Merit 2017/2018 winner!
Wasn’t to be Al Sav’s day and some usual, steady scoring from Mr Donegan saw him bring the Order of Merit 2017/2018 to the Pistol Knights. Dan shot a gross 75, (nett71), LeeFeez returned a nett73 and Al a nett 78.
First time winner Dan did very well to fend off past Swashie winners Lee and Al to take the overall title in what was an especially shoddy Winter with some very wet conditions. Top job Dan, cracking effort Al and Lee, and also well done to Luke C for 4th despite spending most of the year in various smelly student bars in deepest Cantebury.
Geoff takes Medal win!
That young scamp Geoff Russon took the overall on countback with a nett 68. No doubt spurred on by his recent auction win of the Anne Summers goodie pack. On asking them about it after the round, he and Ralphie were banging on about sharing the contents out between them. I walked away quite quickly… lets be honest they’ve probably not managed to even open it yet.
Special note for young Ben LO, who’s gross 73 was the lowest across the weekend and saw him secure 2nd place. Great golf Ben. Oh… and hello hello hello… whats a certain Mr Badger doing sneaking up into 3rd on countback. Nice.
Playing as a 3ball with the Jaggs, Scottie and I had a minor battle in the Order of Merit, Scottie going into the medal in 5th place, 10 or 15pts ahead of me. Miracle needed, and yep, the result was nothing of the sort. Neither of us were scoring that well, despite each hitting a solid ball. I was doing ok until an 8 on the 6th cost me (think heavy rough, small tree, no shot, 3putt etc). Couple birdies on back nine steadied things but could only come back with a nett75, to match the same score as Scottie who let a couple slide in the final few holes. So Mr Yule secured 5th place, and I was unchanged in 6th.
And a final note to Jaggsy, who’s “rollercoaster golf” proved entertaining to Scottie and I, yet had us scratching our heads when he somehow smashed us both with a final nett73.
