What a weekend, knew it was going to be good but I never envisaged it would be as good as it was. Arrived on Wednesday in Dundee to find two stars and stripes flags sitting on top of the welcome pack in the room!
I unpacked and went down to the welcome dinner to find my pal sitting amongst sixty or so Americans, turns out we had been added on to an American “Premier Golf’ trip! So we sat and had dinner chatting to a bunch of septics from all over the US, none of them very optimistic about their chances, I agreed with them, couldn’t see us not winning.
Up at 5am the next day, coach at 6 and course at 7, a long day with plenty of walking, met up with Simon and had a great day. Very tired by the time we got back in the evening.
Simon had to go back Saturday so Vin and me set off again at 5, another fab day helped in the afternoon by being invited into Philip’s [Thorley] hospitality tent, much needed and a great score line at the end of day two.
The last day was fantastic, the atmosphere around the first tee incredible, the venue was superb and the course immaculate. My tips of Justin Rose and Jordan Speith as top guys nearly worked out, some great golf played that day, we saw everyone off on the first then went to the stand on the 14th, the drivable par 4. Saw some great stuff there including Rory winning his match, we thought the Cup was going to be won there when Donaldson had an 8ft putt to win, he missed unfortunately and it was won on the 15th, great position we had though, back to the hospitality tent to watch the rest of the matches and the ceremony.
An absolutely top weekend and about as tired as I have ever felt on Monday morning. Roll on Paris.
