Winning pairing of Asif and Harry, good value these two… very handy!
Our first fixture in the 2017-18 Ryder Cup saw us up against the formidable Early Birds. This year we have a few new faces in our team replacing some who have unfortunately left. With a small squad of players and yours truly unable to play it was important to think hard about pairings and which order to put everyone out. I wasn’t at the club on Saturday unfortunately so some of the details below maybe patchy.
Up first was Brian and Bryan who battled hard winning on the 18th having never been up until then.. sorry I don’t know who they played! Great start to the day.
Next I had Boney and JC, they were drawn against Dave Page and Gordon Thompson. Another great finish; they were 3 down with 4 to play when according to Johnny C, Barry turned into Dustin Johnson… (I’m guessing not the crappy DJ from today!) Match halved. Great comeback!
Graham Adams and Peter Stevens were up against Sunil P and Paul Gilbody. I was confident with this pairing and they didn’t disappoint, winning 3&2.
My final pairing was the ever reliable Asif and the chip off the old block Harry Yule, they were up against Stuart Massey and his playing partner Paul. Stuart is a great player and I was pleased to hear my lads win 3&2!
So going into the singles we were well ahead, but the Early Birds left their biggest guns to last.
New recruit, TJ justified his inclusion in the singles earning a very hard fought half with Haydn Nebbeling. That result proved very important as were were up against it in the remaining singles.
Lee Histed was slightly unfortunate to play an in-form Jackson Massey. Sounds like Lee played very well but Jackson was 5 under gross after 14, Lee losing 5&4.. not much you can do about that!
Mushy was against Ray Robertson and despite getting 3 birdies in a row, 12, 13 and 14, he lost 2&1.
Finally Rob Hance aka Bubba was playing Andy Gorman in the anchor match and lost another tough match 2&1.
Overall 8-8. Great result against a very good side, well done team. Thanks to all the players and those in reserve.
Cheers
Can’t wait to see Mr Bone turn into Dustin Johnson again – top results all round. Fair play for Lee for putting up a fight against an in-form Jackson Mass!
Well done Simon and all the Originals.
