No comps… cold, wet, soggy, windy and a splash of sunshine. Must be deep Winter Swindles.
Saying that, we probably had our two biggest consecutive fields for a long time. Just over 20 on Saturday with a couple of people handing cards in, and about the same on Sunday. Geoff took home some decent readies winning overall on Saturday and Phil cleaned up with 34 points on Sunday. Cha ching.
Quote of the Weekend had to come from Mark when firing down the 8th fairway announced loudly to the world “oh no, my ball is broke“. Some excuse for chunking it 50yards off to the right and after about 1second of close up review it was discovered that the was actually intact… working… and amazingly still round. As crazy as it sounds it must’ve been the golfer and not the ball generating the duff and half of Surrey thrown up in the air on impact.
Jaggsy came in with scores in the 30’s and still managed to discover new parts of the course off the tee. On the 5th fairway, sprinting towards the ball after hearing ‘fore’ shouted off the 4th tee certainly amused those doing the yelling.
Actually, give Mr Winks his dues, in our fourball on Saturday, Stevie and the aforementioned Winkle mustered a fantastic comeback against myself and Graham A. The pair of them whistling ‘The Great Escape’ for the last 7 holes, they were 4 holes down with 5 to play and battled away to be one down coming down the 18th. Graham’s ball went swimming, my 6iron found middle of the green but Mark then knocked a 9iron to about 2foot to win the hole and secure the half. Good game, good game.
