Mushi wins the Captains Cup 2017

30 July, 2017 by Hew 2 Comments

Mark, Mustaq and Dom

Strong showing by the Swashies in yesterday’s Captains Cup with Mushi taking the win with 40pts, Dan ‘trousers’ Mason grabbing 2nd place with 39pts on countback.  Some great scores around, six other scores returned 39pts with Gorden taking 3rd from Jay.

Was a good day after rain that arrived at the end of the week, and we managed the day without any before it came in heavily overnight.  Course was soft on Saturday and there for the taking… no suprise that the scores were so good.  It did mean there were a heap of handicap cuts (/cheer or #abouttime)

A very hungover Lee-The-Feez, a less hungover me and the Northern Petal himself (decked out in lemon-fresh yellow), headed out off the 10th. ‘Goldenb*lls’ Feez started out birdie-par-birdie and setup a very good round.  Scotty jumped in with some birdies but couldn’t get it going whilst being very steady across the 18holes, I couldn’t get the ball to drop for any birdies.  A frustrating final four holes put paid to Lee’s charge but came in with a very solid 38pts, I nabbed a buffer-zone 35 and Scottie a smidge behind on 32.  Very enjoyable round, we weren’t held up too much and Lee was rueing the last couple of holes else he wouldn’t been right up there.

Split tee time for the Captain’s Cup – few mumblings about a shorter tee off times for the comp and unfortunately the pace wasn’t great for many and I did hear of a couple of walk-offs.

That said, a good day for golf of the blues and some fantastic scoring.  Well done everyone, and top job Mushi for the major win for the Swashies!

Um, some tension and anticipation before the prize giving?

Sunday Swindle

With a few absences at the start of the holidays, only 7 of us played in the damp, warm Sunday Swindle after a night of some spectacular rain.   Another soft course, and despite it being a non-qualifing Swindle we were all up for it.  Wayne and Scottie are developing a healthy betting relationship and doubling up today saw Mr Nowak further out of pocket.

Mushi, myself and Backdoor were out first, and Johnny was surely in with a shout after some very solid play.  Recent lessons are now seeing him be very solid off the tee, following up with some solid approach play.  36pts was a very good return, I popped in a steady 34 off plus1 having some birdies make an appearance on the card for a change and despite Mushi grabbing 18pts on the front for the money, a back nine of 8 saw him jump back into the pack.

So well done The Jaggs.

Surrey Hills next Saturday home to Farleigh after the comp and Swindle times, then the Stableford comp for most of us on Sunday.  Sign up if you haven’t already.
