Mid May Comps, League match and Medal

19 May, 2013 by Hew 2 Comments

The annual Thorley Golf Day took place at a windy, gusty, showery North Foreland Golf Course near Ramgate.  New course to most (see clubhouse below), this annual event saw 14? Swashbucklers head down for a stableford competition followed by a charity auction dinner and overnight stay.  I was lucky enough to win the day with a hard fought 38, but this was a cracking course and a top (eventful) evening.  Thanks to Phil Macve for organising everything at our end.  Roll on next year.

Next day, the Swashbucklers then took on a benign Chart Hills in deepest Kent, bunkers and all.  Generally good scoring all round, but we were all left somewhat bemused but impressed when an extremely happy new Club Captain, Mr CC Loveless walked in with a best ever round of 47 points (gross 82)!

Saturday saw Surrey National take on Reigate Hill Golf Club away in the first Surrey Hills League match of the year.  We managed a hard fought and rare away win.  Lee and Max bringing it in well so we won by two points.

Sean’s match report:
A great day to kick off the new season- Especially having had to cancel the planned match in March due to terrible weather. Reigate Hill were hospitable as ever and great company – How nice to be able to play in shirt sleeves. A close run match , played in the usual spirit of sportsmanship associated with friendly, but intense, competition. Surrey National managed to hold two games to draws, and fought hard to keep the other two matches to losses of just two holes each. Our day was saved, by our young Turks, Lee Feasey and Max Everett-Rose, coming in with a win of 6 holes. We are very much looking forward to the return match at our place on the 9th June.

leeFinally, Swashbucklers took the honours on Sunday when Lee won the Sunday medal.  All the more impressive when his net 65 included a 6 at the 3rd. Three Swashbucklers in the top10, possibly as we were a bit light on the ground this month.  Roll on stableford on 1/2 June and the Club Champs on 15/16th June.
