Men take 2017 Gender Bragging Rights Cup (GBR)

2 October, 2016 by Hew Leave a Comment

gbr-cupMens team took a convincing 9.5 to 2.5 win over the ladies in this year’s GBR Cup

Organised very kindly by Jane, with Winkle sorting out the Men’s team, we had 8 vs. 8 in the “friendly” annual match of Ladies vs. Mens today.  The weather was great, though jumpers needed (even if you had forgotten them).

18 holes of foursomes started the day, followed by a quick lunch and 9holes of singles to decide the result.

Bobbie and I were out 3rd against Tracey and Margaret.  A very close game and I don’t think anyone was more than two up until the very end.  Holes rarely halved, Bob and I were up against a determined pairing, with Tracey’s fantastic chipping meaning Margaret’s putter wasn’t needed on a few holes.

Golf wasn’t sparkling… I think the ladies won the 5th with an 8!… but Bob and I hung in there and came out on top on the 16th.  Similar news in other matches and the morning ended with the Men taking all four matches for the clean sweep.

"Swing it faster Mark" was the call as he tee'd off the first. He clearly did but managed to just knock it past the ladies tee (though he did win his match to be fair)

Very quick lunch later and we were matched up for the 9hole singles game.  Out 3rd again, Brian was taking on Jane and I played Tracey.  Golf picked up in the afternoon sunshine, Jane scaring the ball by yelling at it out of the rough and bunkers on a few occasions and managed to beat Brian on the 6th and I managed to pip Tracey on the 8th.

Another good round for the Men, only Brian taking the loss with a few halfs along the way.  (Sorry Bri).

Result of the day was Carol who I believe was dormie3 down to a certain Mr L Feasey in the singles but came in with a very well fought half.

So a great competitive day with the games all played in the best of spirits, ending with drinks and a certain smugness on the face of Mr Loveless…. and we had the Ryder Cup singles starting on the ropey tv in the bar.  Many thanks again to Jane for the arrangements (and Quality Street n’ cakes!).
