Sunday turned out to be the finest day of the year so far, with more than a couple of us end it with red arms, necks and heads. No red faces though, well sunburn yes, as The Swashbucklers turned out against the mighty Originals.
Winkles vs Jezza, A team vs B team (depending on whom you spoke to), Youngies vs oldies, skinny(ish) vs the large(ees)… all the banter over the last few months came to a head as 12 Swashbucklers were matched against 12 Originals… the inter-inter-Swindle game of Surrey national? I’ve hyped it enough? I think so. Onto the day.
Jerry’s Match Report
Sunny Sunday for the Swashbucklers with a great effort from The Originals to keep the result at 10 – 6.
Match 1 Jezza & Barry
A game played in the spirit of the Ryder Cup… surprisingly quiet… with a mellow Bone and Wayne (nearly on his best behaviour) and after the first three holes it was nip and tuck. The old boys were one up standing on the tenth tee but unfortunately Steve played some exceptional golf on the back nine we had to play the eighteenth only to lose by one hole.Match 2 Brian & John
Well what can I say about my dream team, just wait till Brian gets the rest of his new clubs then we all will be in trouble! They played Alan G & James M with a 7 & 6 win – a super result.Match 3 Janine & Mushtaq
Playing the in-form Philip & Jim, losing 3 & 2. To quote Mushtaq again “the operation was not successful and yes the patient still died“.Match 4 Denzil & Martin
Played Captain Winkle & Hew. Another great effort from the originals, it was a just under 5hours round to make it a 3 & 2 win to the Originals.Match 5 Rob vs Al S
Robert Hance played “Big Guns” Alan Sav. Following the game in front, I was surprised that it went the distance for a half… some would have shaken hands on the 16th and gone to the bar!Match 6 “CC” vs Scottie
Club Captain Graham played Scotty Yule… my plan of sending Denzil out in the pairs was to keep the Northerner in the sunshine. They don’t like it you know, but from a bit of wizardry from Scott sending his third shot from behind the buggy park onto the green & our Mr loveless shot his in the bunker just missing the lake (tight wad) he managed to lose by 1 hole.Match 7 Lee vs Graham
Ex-Club-Captain Graham played “ringer” Lee Snatchfold. I would just like to play tribute to Grahams attire…. white shirt and blue trousers and after breakfast, 18 holes of golf and beer, after not a stain in sight – not even a little grass stain on his chin after battling with Lee to lose by 1 hole.Match 8 Bryan played Tony another epic match running out all square
Yet another successful after-golf drinks and with Simon & Carroll Bailey coming to support the lads homecoming well played everyone!
