Posted on behalf of Originals Team Captain Graham Loveless
As I walked down the steps to the club house Dom Khan cut a solitary figure as he seemed to be gazing over the 18th green. Handshakes exchanged and we headed inside as the rain started to fall.
Nearly everyone was complaining about the weather except myself. Knowing how the PKs had battered the Swashies the rain could in fact do us a favour…
It was agreed that if the course became unplayable teams could come in by mutual agreement and the score at that point would be the result. Rob Hance and Matt Walton lead us out followed by Bryan & Peter, Colin & Jan and then Graham A and Boney as the final pair. The singles were Simon C, myself, Brian and Mushie.
I had drawn Kevin Perry and we battled through the front 9 to be all square then pars on 10 and 11 got me to 2 up. We finally shook hands on 15 with me winning 4 and 3.
Simon battled hard and unfortunately chances slipped by and when I left him he was dormie 3 down giving a shot away on 16. Nothing short of a miracle was needed there.
On reaching the clubhouse a smiling Rob Hance informed me his pairs record was still intact. But we were 5-3 down (this has subsequently been amended to 4-4) and my win brought us level. However that was the last points we saw coming to us that day with Brian losing to Steve Wood and Mushie just missing out on a half to lose to one of the PK’s juniors, Ben, to a birdie. If that hadn’t dropped Mushie would have gone down the last 1 down but with a shot.
Final score after adjustment was Pistol Knights 10 and Originals 6.
Not a great result but I was very pleased to get something out of the day. Special mention to Graham Adams who battled on in his pairs match, against Dom and Danny, alone from the 6th and kept the match going until the 16th. Very commendable and apparently caused my opposite Captain to go into a bit of a panic. A great effort by our former Captain.
Great atmosphere in the clubhouse afterwards. To be honest I would have been very happy with 8 points but 6 will definitely do! Our title defense continues and the focus still remains on getting to the finals day.

Next match Bob’s Bashers.
Cracking effort from the Originals. Sterling effort against a determined bunch of Pistols and well done Graham A for taking it to the 16th.

Here…here….I was indeed concerned that my record of losing to a single chap when playing a pairs match was coming back to haunt me, it didn’t help when Mr Loveless
shouted it out at me across the 12th tee when Mr Adams had reduced the match from 3 to 1.
Sterling effort by both teams.
