It rained, it was muddy… and to make it worse we got a shoeing today. 12-4.
Some very nasty weather was forecast to land around 10ish and by the time we all tee’d off after 8, the rain started. We thought the wind would be up with torrential rain for most of the day, but it never really materialised. Despite it raining steadily for 18holes, it was light enough to play, and the greens managed the worst of it pretty well and only towards the end of the round did we see them get saturated.
The two Matts were out first against Colin and Bob, Mr Jaggs playing very well on the front nine but determined play by the Bashers’ pair saw them win 2&1.
Phil and I were up against Greg and Peter and we never really got out of the traps. Gifting the first, getting it back on the 2nd to par… we lost the next two to a shot and a par, and they never looked back. Neither Phil or I could get close to dovetailing and after making the turn 3 down, we halved the 10th in birdies before Greg, playing very well, par’d the 12th with a shot to win and before you knew it we were halving the 15th at dormie and shaking hands losing 4&3. Fair play to Peter and Greg, they played steadily but we didnt have an answer on the day.

Swashbuckler debrief, and smiles all round for Bob’s lot (captain’d this year by Greg)
Simon and Richie lost out as well, before Team Captain Stevie and Sean came in with the first win and a glimmer of resistance! Playing in front of them it seemed Stevie was to be hitting it well – no doubt being more familiar playing with a hangover compared to his sober game the other week. Sean played a couple of creative shots on the 9th and 13th to take the holes from their bemused opponents. (Something about both “skinny and thin” to gimmie distance).
So we were 3-1 down in the pairs before the singles came in.
Not much to cheer either here despite some hard work from all. Wayne missed out first, as did Danny against canny campaigner Ralph. Lee was pipped by Steve Wood whilst Scottie *cheer* did manage to beat that ol warrior Bob English by two holes I think.
So , final result 12-4… its looking a bit grim. But… we have two matches to go and there is plenty more golf in it. <cue some hopeful random football adages>
Winners never quit and quitters never win. Swashbucklers forever! (I may of been drinking)
Nice. I think we all needed a few drinks after Saturday mate.
