Lee’s groin beats the Marathon

alleeleeWell where do I start……… Sunday morning after a hearty breakfast consisting of natural oats I travelled up to Greenwich Park, the atmosphere was buzzing 36,000 people getting ready to take on 26.2miles around London!!!!

Stepping into the 4 hour pen I looked around and saw I was surrounded by athletic, skinny, toned runners and i immediately felt out of place. Walking towards the start line noticing the sun was getting increasingly hotter I was ready to go, when crossing the line at 10:06:47 I quickly got into my set pace, I was flying round the first couple of miles, I felt on top of the world.

After going through the first 10k in 54:32 it was all looking good, then I attempted to go around a few people going up and down a few kerbs then all I felt was a POP!!! My groin had gone, I had to stop to see the extent of the injury. Feeling as I had pulled my groin I preceded to run but with extremely small strides. During the next 4-5 mile I saw 4 people faint through the heat which was unbearable.  After 16miles I had acquired a running buddy and we kept the pace as quick as possible until the finish.

Finishing time was 4:49:52 which with an injury is not too bad. Sorry to all the people I let down Mr S.Bailey.

Next year is 2 marathons, starting with Brighton followed a week later by London!!!!
