Heap of matches played on Saturday meant 10 Swindlers were out fighting for ca$h and ‘honours’. Lovely day on Saturday, warm with a bit of a breeze, so the course was there for the taking.
The Swindle however, decided not to “take it”, with scores generally only nodding to the 30’s. BIGJaggsy as he’s becoming know with his long slingy draws (when they come off), was quite humble on taking the win with 31 points. Not that humble as he counted the cold hard winnings.
On the matches front, poor auld Mr Adams’ week continued in a similar vein with a narrow loss on the 20th hole in the singles to big hitting young Matt Walton. Wayne and Peter had a convincing win against the Sweetmans in the pairs and Phil and I lost to the dovetailing prowess of Sean and Dean by 1hole.
Some very steady play by both of our opponents meant Phil and I had to do something very special to get a look in as holes were only won by net or gross birdies. Sean probably secured it on the 17th after his ball was flying into the trees on the right only to bounce out at 90degrees to the fairway. 220yards away he cracked a 3wood which threaded the bunkers and ended up at the back of the green. With my ball on the green 12ft away, a heavy chip from Sean left him a 20foot putt which Mr Savedra decided to drain. So from perhaps looking at going down the 18th all square, we were 1 down, giving shots and with my birdie putt on the last finishing just wide, we ended on a half and down by one.
Good luck to them both, and other Swindle teams, in the next rounds.
