Another Swashbuckler Major Win
Jaggsy put in a real performance today to win the Blue Bogey – his second major after the Captain’s Cup the other year.
A cracking day – cool, early start for most of us, but the clouds cleared and we had bright, warm, humid sunshine. We even had to be aware of shadows on the tee box… a rare problem given lack of sunshine this summer. Matt (Stock) measured the greens as we came in around half12 and he returned an 11 on the stim. Troon’s 10 for the open at the moment, so our greens were looked and certainly played very well. Course generally was in good nick so a big thanks to the greenkeepers (and recent updates from other group courses, put ours in a good place at the moment).
My 3ball of Mr Gloveless and Mr Doran went round in good time from our early tee. Jim opening up with a string of holes of green in regulation and was going well. Mr Loveless inched ahead of me but at the end of the round, Jim came in 4 over the course and I managed to equal Graham on the 18th to return a 2 over. Not a format I’ve ever played well for some reason, and though today was ‘ok’ I wasn’t alone in ‘meh’ scores… but we did have Dan (Tully) and Felix up there in top10 fighting for Order of Merit points.
Our group followed the 2ball of Sean and Jaggsy, and after hearing Matt was on a good score, we saw his fistpumps after putts on the 16th and 17th which boded well. 7under was the result, something like 45points off handicap… off the blues. Only 2 holes lost against the course, so that makes 9 where he beat it. Fantastic.
‘Snip snip’… Mr Stock is cracking his fingers for a general play cut so perhaps we’ll see a cut down to 12. Certainly deserved, and Jaggsy welcomes it… great shootin’ tex.
