Well…the Winter Greensomes Final…finally got played, on the longest and hottest day of the year, three months after it’s due date!
We faced tough opposition from the Jackson Two, Dave and Rob, even with four shots.
We all know how good a golfer Dave is but Hew and I had never played with Rob. Rumour had it, he is a very good 17 hcp and hits the ball miles. So it was no surprise when the first hole was halved with birdies, Dave had a two footer which he tapped in comfortably and Hew holed a ten footer, superb putt.
I did the same on the second to make another birdie and we were one up. We lost the third with both of our balls nowhere near the green. Won a few more though and we were two up at the turn. We then went par, bogey to win the next two and we were four up, however we lost 12 and 14 and went back to two up going down the 16th. I was left with a down hill four footer for the match, thankfully I made it and that was that, both of us very pleased with the win.
I still think it was crazy that it was played so late in the year but glad we did it and obviously glad we won. Dave and Rob were great company, it was a pleasure to watch Dave’s golf and he was very complimentary about our game too, good guys and a good match.
Hew and myself look forward to playing Jim and CC in the next round of the Caterham Cup (we knocked out Neil Lawrence and Darryl Gasson yesterday), once you have beaten the Gormans of course chaps.
