22 of us (mostly Swindle) headed over to the Addington on Sunday and the expecting light rain never took hold and it was thankfully a milder day than chilly Saturday. Wayne did a fantastic job promoting and organising the day – big thanks from us all for his hard work.
A sizable pot was put together from £15 contributions (!) and though I’d have voted for a 1st/2nd/3rd, it was a winner takes (mostly) all affair and Mr Grubb duly stepped up with some solid golf to take the spoils.
We were lucky with the weather, if not the course. I’m afraid its not in good nick at the moment. Bumpy fluffy greens trying to grow/recover from their hollow tining, and though the work on the tee boxes will be good once bedded in and trimmed sadly the fairways and rough areas are looking quite ropey. Some overflowing bins were not great to see either. It needs a lot of work.
That said it was a very enjoyable day. Tee’s were usually at the very back so it played quite long for its par69, with the exception of some par3’s playing off mats/temporaries. Mike (aka Scottish Mick) perhaps didnt have the best of days but his eagle on the picturesque par5 (drive/3w/long putt) was great to see. Some of the tee shots to win the par3’s were exceptional. James M put a 5iron to 12inches on the long 3rd, Wayne nabbed 7th I believe, Simon C put it to 2feet on the 11th and Dan Al’sMate hit a 3wood at the very long 13th only to have Ben beat it (and did Ben grab 17th as well… not sure). In any case, all the par3 13th shots especially were impressive, big hitting for some *cough* higher handicaps when the rest of us took drivers… usually poorly.
Dan (Tully) took back 9, Grubbster the front overall and a pin.
Thanks again to Wayne who I hope can be encouraged to arrange another away day at maybe another Group course during the summer.
