Blue Bogey 13th July – Wayne Nowak
Captain’s Cup – 10th August 2013 – Matthew Jaggs
Hi all,
Many thanks for everyone who played in the Captain’s Cup on Saturday and for those that couldn’t make it you were missed.
Saturday’s competition came on the back of my 7 day pairs match Friday evening so to be honest waking up at 5am to get to the club before 6am to help get set up left me feeling a little jaded.
A big thank you to Jerry Assig for helping out on the competition desk with myself and Joe ‘Dr Golf’ Krarup. I would also like to thank Phil for the scorecards for the day (a little more airbrushing on my muffin top would’ve been nice though). (ed: Hew says wut?!)
My four ball (Sean ‘Vice-Captain’ Savedra, Phil Macve and Allan Vassay) tee’d off at 7.20am in near perfect conditions and we enjoyed a good pairs match amongst ourselves which went down to the last with myself and Phil losing 1 and 0. Sean had put himself in good contention with 20 points after the front 9 …unfortunately less so as the round progressed through the back 9. On the 15th tee Phil asked me what I thought the winning score would be and somewhat prophetically I thought 39 points would do it.
When finishing our round the leading score in the club house was already 38 points.
As the results came in over the next hour it looked like there was no runaway leader (no repeat 40+ points from Hew Whitefoord or Scott Yule and clearly no ‘Chart Hills’ banditry from yours truely!!!) until we finished with three players on 39 points. Looking at the count backs it was incredibly close but Matt Jaggs nicked it off Stuart Simmonds (2nd) and Nick Brown (3rd). Looking at their scorecards the standard of golf was excellent. Of course I was very pleased to be handing the Captain’s Cup over to a fellow Swashbuckler but I do feel a little for both Stuart and Nick who would have been very worthy winners. Nevertheless, well done Matt – a great win!
Certainly I know how it feels to lose a major on countback, Mr Novak! But having now come to terms with Wayne nicking the Blue Bogey off me (and taking a couple of fivers of Wayne since has helped my therapy) I also look forward to presenting Wayne with his trophy at the Turkey Trott.
So with two of the Major trophies already sitting with the Swashbucklers and the knockout competitions still very much alive this is looking like it is going to be another strong year for the Swashbucklers.
Let’s keep it going!!!
