Another good game here, a decent alternative in a 3ball to barracuda.
You play cumulative stableford scoring off handicap. If you nett bogey two holes in a row you go back to zero, if you double bogey (ie blob) you go back to zero… hence Trainwreck.
In play, if you got stableford points on the first two holes of 2pts, 2pts, but hoofed it into the water on the 3rd you’re back to zero.
Its value is that you are never out of it, and can obviously be played alongside normal Stableford/Swindle and works around any course for 9 or 18holes.
With the possible exception of Scottie, its assured we’ll all screw up and be dunked back to zero several times (hopefully not too many).
However, you can be having a mare, then Billy Big-Shots who is strutting around 20points ahead can have a mare on the 18th, and your measly net bogey 1pt can take the game.
Playing Trainwreck – course Blog
Check out Rick Shiels’ YouTube channel and a vid of a course blog during his recent visit to Florida for the massive golf expo they have there. They play this format. The 3ball is at Orange County National along with his golfing partner Peter Finch and local teaching pro who hits it a country mile.
If anyone has other “simple” games they would like to suggest, email them to me and I’ll post them up.
