February Stableford, yes it stopped raining!

2 February, 2014 by Hew 1 Comment

winter-golfDespite shedding it down Friday afternoon and evening,we managed two days without any significant rain.  It got a bit moody end of Saturday’s round with some rain and wind but Sunday was just about perfect… bright, barely a breeze and sunshine.

No trolleys for the weekend given the recent rain.  Excepting, of course, the challenge faced by some in carrying clubs, I do think they should do this more often – the course certainly looks better for it.

Greens looked a bit battered but overall the course was great given recent weather.

Saturday’s Stableford comp saw 3 Swashbucklers feature in the top 10. Al Savil hoovered up more Order of Merit points coming in 5th with 35points, Matt Strong and Jaggsy 7th and 8th respectively.  Al now has a 19pt lead with 5 comps to go.   With about 14-15 of us, Saturday’s Swindle was a strong one… Jezza smashed everyone with 40 points, beating Barry by a nose or two.

On Sunday’s club Stableford, Al Gollop, CC Loveless and myself sneaked into the top10, with Al taking the Swindle Fivers by a point  (again… not that I’m bitter… honest).

In other news, Simon Bailey was spotted enjoying a bit of club throwing during his round today. Unsure if they were aimed at anyone, but as the most likely target, we can report that playing partner Winkle survived without a scratch.

Late news from the course was that Matt Strong proudly parred the par5 14th with 5 consecutive drivers.  Why? don’t know… impressive, yes.
