Saturday…
…promised miserable rain for first few hours and reasonable weather from then on. The club unfortunately messed our Swindle times up so we were reduced to 3 slots at 11.20am. Wayne I believe came in to hoover things up with a very creditable 37 or 36pts.
In the Saturday stableford comp, young Sam Allen returned a fantastic 43points, recording a gross 70 to win by one from Paul Flanagan. Sam had 7 birdies and 5 bogeys – an excellent round. Seriously well done Sam, a cracking score with young Ben playing well only a few behind on 35. Great to see the younger players continuing to post good scores.
In fact lots of good scores on Saturday despite the early rain, standard scratch must have been high. Tony came back with 35 from the Swashbucklers with Mr Bone and Mr Adams no doubt enjoying 18 holes of in-depth analysis of Boney’s swing rather than setting the course alight!
Sean, Winkle, Jaggsy and myself managed to find an earlier tee time at Woldingham and nicked over there for 18 holes pairs matchplay. Simon C and Brian C were there playing with their respective mates. In our game, Jaggsy and Mark did very well coming back with 22pts, but Mr Jaggs took the Vice-Captain by a point on the last hole with a birdie at 37pts. Woldingham quite squidgy given the weather but the earlier tee meant we could end things in good time and head off to enjoy the rubgy and a few sherbets.
Sunday …
…gave us no rain but a cold sharp day getting very chilly when the fog rolled in. Course holding up quite well in the damp, greens soft and receptive. More good scores out there but nothing sub par. Young Haydn took the honours and a handicap cut with 40pts… our own Backdoor Johnny came 2nd overall, with an impressive 39pts nipping Mushi on countback.
