Yes, before some notes on the day, lets get it out of the way. our new incoming Men’s Captain likes the Swashbucklers. See the proof on the right here. Well he cant help it, I wonder if the henchmen in the Early Bird eagles would give him a hard time.
Promised sunshine barely made an appearance, but overcast, grey and a chill wind certainly did. However that didn’t dull the enthusiaism for the golfing part of the day – team scamble off the whites. Clubhouse was very busy and teams assembled and started grumbling about their tee slots.
TeamCaptainAssig wangled the 17th for Grubbie, Richie and myself… and after seeing Dave Little’s group play with only one in the fairway… we promptly did the same with steady Jezza ensuring we didnt start off with a mare. The Grubbster then pulled a towering 5 iron out to about 12 feet and we just missed the birdie but avoided something worse on the 1st hole. For leaving shots short, Chris then decided to keep hold of the ladies ‘pinny’ we awarded for whoopsies throughout the round. Only one bogey for us on the 6th, but 5 birdies and we came in with a decent score to find outselves third. We were all very pleased – a great fun round of golf.
Heroics were being performed out on the course. Didn’t hear too many birdie shouts to be honest (probably the wind) but we did hear quite a few groans (may have been wind). Wayne holed for an eagle in his group on the 10th… which no doubt helped them as they amassed a very good team score to take the overall win. Wayne, Tom, Peter and Ben scooped top honours with 60.4, Colin B’s team second and we nipped in for 3rd.
Putt out, Drive In
Captains then headed down to the 18th where we saw departing Captain Paul and Margaret face immense putts on the 18th to end their years’ captaincy. Both bravely 3 putted. In the absence of a ladies captain this year (their actvities will be managed by committee), Joe headed off to the 1st for his Drive. Barracking aside, he smashed it…. well sort off, left onto the 2nd fairway for a mighty 201yards. Cue excuses during his speech. Thank you Paul and Margaret… well done Joe and good luck for the coming year.
Hopefully someone will send over something on how the ball went in the evening, espeically Joe’s speech. In the meantime, an unnamed contributior sent this over simply with the title… “Caption Competition”
