Surrey National said thanks to Sean and Liz, and welcomed Paul Gilbody and Margaret Butterworth as new Mens and Ladies Captains for 2015/2016.
Drizzle and light rain welcomed all the members as we lined up across the holes for our shotgun start in the usual texas scramble format. Thankfully, after the first hour or so, things slowly improved and we finished the day in sunshine.
In our own team of Jezza, Yeti and Assif, the golf (much like the start of the day) was hardly sparkling. We never really got going, two bogeys didn’t help and though our haul of 4 birdies were never going to get us very far they were enjoyed by all when they dropped. Elsewhere the scores were extremely impressive.
Some impressive results, with two teams clearly out in front. The grizzled Swindle team of Bone, Hogben, Champion and Adams came in a very creditable 2nd on countback with 56.9. Well done chaps. Congratulations to Team jackson (David, Graham and Rob) complete with Ray Robertson for overall honours on the day.
Putts of the day were clearly from Sean and Liz, who in front of a full “supportive” clubhouse saw each 2 putt from across the 18th green seeing out their year. Paul and Margaret both hit great drives off the 1st as they started their years. Our new ladies captain smashing it 90yards onto the fairway, and Paul exceeding all expectations (despite a certain Mr Adam’s timing the hooter well), with a 264 yard drive.
A great day and we all wish the new Captain’s all the best for the new golfing year.
