Sunday saw temperatures drop slightly but remain remained bright and clear for the 3rd day running. The Captain/Pro Challenge is a team scramble game, where prizes are awarded to any teams beating the combined scores of Matt, Keiran, Paul and Joe. Best score wins a team round at the Addington.
Side bets were made on any hole you thought you could beat the Pro’s on. This, together money collected from entry, went towards the Captain’s charity this year – The Children’s Trust.
Our team of Jezza, ‘Deadly’ Dennis Oh-Dee and Mr Hogben did fair to middlin’. We were steady throughout, 3 birdies and only one bogey to report on 16. Dennis’ heroics helped us out on a couple of holes, especially the 13th where after playing some quite rough golf, I managed to put a 5iron to about 6feet, before Dennis stepped up pured a rescue wood to the back tier to only 3 feet away (and yes he did hole it). Bryan slotted a couple of nice putts in for birdies and boomed a driver drive down the 17th when he needed to burn his last required drive. 63.9 wasnt enough but a very enjoyable round.
Captains and Pro’s did well, Vice Capt Joe said Keiran played especially well…. They came in with 61.5. Joe was keen to highlight his putt on the first for birdie and his drive on the 17th which they took (or “had” to take Joe?). He didnt linger long on the 2nd shot from his drive though… which he decided to duff straight in front of him into the bunker).
Speaking to one A. Gorman Esquire on Friday he said he fancied it Sunday with his team (I think) of Keith Oakley and Nebbeling Snr and Junior. They came in with 56.6 overall I think… I had to leave before the final scores but Phil sent over the final scoreboard below and surely worthy winners on the day.
TeamWayne with young Peter, Scottie and in-form Mr Parfitt took second overall. Winkle, Jaggsy, Richie and Strongbow I think did well with 60.9, as did. Phil, Lee, Deano and Gollampost posted a very respectable score of 62 as well.
