Iffy start to the day for me. Paying for petrol on the way to pick up Jaggsy in the morning, I’d left my wallet in my flat. Had to ask Jaggsy to drive down the road to the garage to pay the petrol, the I headed back home to get the wallet and then back to pick him up and head down to the south coast to Seaford. Fortunately, message was put out to save 2 bacon butties and it turns out we made it with plenty of time to spare.
A good turnout to join in Bob’s 60th away day. Mick had organised the day and the food, Stevie sorted the bets and the groups were all setup and we headed out in mild if overcast day. Great to see some of the Swindlers who we’ve not seen too much of recently Colin, Dave Shirley, Jezza Stevo Mac, Pam and some partners were all in attendance.
My fourball was Simon B, Backdoor and Jim. As it turns out, I was a winner from the start as I was partnered with Jim in our match! I played in a few holes I think but a lot of golf to forget. A birdie on the 2nd, followed by a comedy chip up to a raised green on the 3rd which I needed 3 goes to stop it rolling back down to my feet. Three double bogeys from nowhere later I was lucky enough to hole my 2nd on the par4 7th for an eagle, but I was then settling back watching Jim get up and down again and again and again! Jim’s putting was scarey, and I think at the end he had about 26putts and was up and down at least 5 times on the back nine.
He and Johnny C both hit the turn with 20points, Johnny helped with a couple of birdies for 4pts, only to Jim crack on and return 22 points on the back! All had a great round and enjoyed the day. Sun managed to make an appearance on the back nine but the breeze still kept it a bit chilly.
Seaford Head is a nice little course but can punish you quickly (*wave*). The staff at the clubhouse looked after us very well and we all had drinks and a nice dinner comparing stories – the good, the bad and the ugly.
Winners of the pins were Mushi, myself and Mick, longest drive winner Mick ‘Ive only gone and smashed it’ Losasso.
3rd on countback with 40pts, was Mushi (from Brian who also scored 40)
2nd on countback again was Jezza on 40
and overall winner with 42pts Jim!
Happy Birthday Bob!
Wishing the boy well on his birthday after the main course, Mick dished out the prizes, Jim scooping overall, along with a nice lavender Seaford Head polo shirt for his troubles.
Bob was once again waiting for Stevie to finish his pint at the end of a long day, looking forward to a few quiet hours at home watching the Tour de France.
A great day all round, well done Mick for the leg work and happy birthday Bob!
