Damp and mild over the weekend, and Saturday saw four Ryder Cup teams playing with the Pistols having their off week.
Greens and course conditions both soft. Certainly better than last week when the Sunday comp were faced with frozen greens the whole round compared to Saturday. Shame the Order of Merit points were awarded – you obviously have to accept weather changes over a two-day comp (yes it can swing both ways), but Sunday was simply unplayable.
Ryder Cup last weekend and in the depths of winter, matchplay is a more appropriate format to play against an opponent rather than the course. Needed to keep it on the fairway, the rough being long and pretty unforgiving. Greens continue to be excellent this time of year but suspect I wasn’t alone in being dissapointed with the state of the bunkers. That machine is just stripping everything back to mud and stone and I’m sure it would be better to leave several bunkers as-is or just rake a portion of the bunker to at least have a chance to play a shot. Ho hum.
Didn’t receive any match reports from the previous round of Ryder Cup matches to post up, not sure if I’ll get any more from this weekend but I can at least have the scores posted up.
Good result for the Swashies (or “Swashes”) against the gritty Early Birds, and the Originals went down to MOBs to the same score.
One more round left I think, and its game on in March for the Swashies and Originals. Nice.
