Cracking weekend of weather, warm, sunshine and a respectable summer breeze.
Saturday Swindle saw Dan Thompson win with 37points – also submitting a card into the medal. That copped Dan a nett71 and overall fourth place on the day, whilst Jaggsy out earlier returned a nett 70 for 3rd overall playing in the comp only. Well played both, and congrats on the handicap cuts.
Scottie and I were behind in the Swindle and were chuffed with our 35pts of Swindle handicap but couldn’t get near near Dan’s solid play. A nett 65 actually won the Medal day on Saturday so it was game on for Sunday where more Swashies were playing.
Greens a bit slow this weekend after the solid tining last week, but at least were consistent if in need of a roll and decent cut after some healthy growth. Quite a bit of surface sand too at the top level despite the rain during the week so a lots of balls were skidding on.
One thing remarked on by many players was the rough. Overly painful and not just the clover when looking for balls (especially not on a medal weekend). Yes its an obvious penalty, but I heard today the club’s mower was broken this week and it showed, especially just off the fairway. Not good.
Playing with The Feez, Tony and TullyMonster today, golf balls literally inches off the primary cut fairway (14th for example) and the ball was being almost buried in 4inches of grass. Sooner that gets fixed the better.
We had a good fourball today after a screw up with some earlier tee times meaning we were 4 not 3. Tony found some quite unfair lies, Lee had a day of birdies and bogies, and TullyMonster put some cracking shots together but wasn’t his day with the putter.
A steady round saw me miss a bundle of makeable putts on the first 10holes. The round turned on the 14th when a putt, after a solid 3wood into the par5 14th, actually dropped for an eagle. A couple of closing birdies had me in on nett68, only just nipping the returning (and injured) Senior Riccardo Blake on countback to sneak the fivers.
