Jaggsy was very impressed with his pink crocodile skin scorecard holder. As if straight out a catalogue, someone even took a posed picture with the aforementioned holder. Surely a caption competition….”bogey, double, bogey, blob, blob…” etc
First major of the year, the Anniversary Cup is team fourball, two best scores on each hole counting and is played on either Saturday or Sunday.
Most of the Swindle teams were out on Sunday. On Saturday we had a handful of us heading out in the Swindle, Jaggsy taking the win with 35pts (“oh but I didnt hit it well). Hmm indeed Mr Jaggs, a win’s a win.
Top of the pile on Saturday in the Cup with 90pts were the team of Richard Donovan, Dave Little, Sunil and Allan Vassay. A good score, we had wind both days but was probably gustier on the Saturday.
Sunday I think we had the same number of teams out, not very warm but apart from some light drizzle we were again lucky with the Spring weather.
Our team of Captain Mark, Ritchie, Jaggsy and myself had a steady start with a couple of birdies and decent putts on the front nine to return 45pts with Jaggsy securing a birdie on the 7th after going close on the 3rd. All going well with back-to-back 7pt holes on the 11th and 12th, only to come unstuck with a team score of 2pts on the 13th. Couple of short putts missed in the round and a very forgettable 17th, we rallied with 4 pars on the 18th but it turned out we came up short with a still commendable 91 in second place.
The Pistols’ young Sam and Charlie, together with Steve Bracey and Tom Tomney secured the overall win with a very impressive 94 points. Sam eagling the 14th after his drive found the lip of the bunker certainly helped. Well done to the winners.

Winkle has been playing well this year, but worth adding this picture I took from the 16th fairway of our Club Captain during our 3ball in Saturday’s Swindle. He was taking his second shot on the 16th after his ‘interesting’ drive found the middle of the 15th fairway!
Finally, a big collective thanks to Rob Bubba Hance who was up a the club early to afix a bell to the stanchion on the 17th.
Why we didnt have a clanger or new bell sorted after months of needing one was beyond me – hardly a big task given it helped pace of play and of course reduced the chance of being hit!
Top work Rob , thank you.
I think it should be a scratch comp.
