Surrey National beat The Add 3-2 on Saturday in a close match going down to the final match.
A corking March day saw the Surrey A’s A team of the club of Al Sav, Barry, Mark Sean and myself take on The Addington five. Format was matchplay singles played to a result with the home side giving an extra shot for home advantage.
The Addington course was in very good nick given that only till last week they still had one temporary green. The greens were again baffling on occasion (for me at least) but were not their usual pace… no doubt a roll and cut will sort them out. Not a long course, the Add is a great track which can be taken on if you are playing well off the tee… ready to eat you up on the greens or if you like getting personal with the trees from the tee.
Al and myself were fortunate to take wins inthe first pairings, Barry and Mark missing out, only to have Sean take his match 3&2 to secure the win. Great result, especially given Mark and I had played the course once and Al not at all.
Special thanks to the Addington fellahs, game played in excellent spirit throughout and having drinks and sandwiches in the sun together was a great end to the match. Being entertained by one of their more senior ladies wandering over and telling dirty jokes afterwards was a bonus.
